Recent Inspection

Dear Parents and Carers,

I am delighted to be able to tell you that, following a recent inspection, we have had a very encouraging report back from Ofsted, who have moved the school up a grade.

You may remember that just before I took over as Principal of Pegasus Academy, Ofsted inspected us and found the school to be ‘Inadequate’. Since then, I, my staff and the team from Dudley Academies Trust have been working tirelessly to put us on the path to improvement, and this new report from Ofsted confirms that we are succeeding in our efforts. I am immensely proud of the progress we have made and would personally like to thank you all for the support you have shown the school during this time. It was particularly pleasing to see that our young people were happy and proud of their school.

In 18 months since the last full inspection, we have made a number of key teaching appointments, resulting in over 40% new staff. This will significantly add to the performance of the school and the ability of your children to achieve their full potential. We have introduced a rewards and behaviours system that has set new standards for our learners. We have also changed the curriculum, installed new computers and new software, increased support for children who need it and introduced a new careers programme to open learners’ eyes to the opportunities ahead of them. Ofsted saw improvements in all key aspects of school life, and there are many more positive changes to come.

Pegasus is now graded as ‘Requires Improvement’, and we will strive to be ‘Good’ or ‘Outstanding’ in the future. This inspection, and the difference the improvements are making to our young people, now give us the continued motivation to push even harder and achieve this at pace. Next term, I shall be inviting all of you to a meeting to explain how we are going to take Pegasus forwards in the coming years, and what that will mean for our learners.

Please read our press release that sums up the Ofsted report. Lastly, may I once again thank you for your support over the past year and wish you a happy summer break.

Yours sincerely

Andy Landers
Principal, Pegasus Academy
