Pegasus Academy praised as pupils “succeed socially, emotionally and academically”

Pegasus Academy has been praised by Ofsted in a positive inspection report which says pupils “succeed socially, emotionally and academically” through the support of staff who “go the extra mile”.  Inspectors confirmed that the school provides a high standard of education and care in all six inspection areas, with safeguarding also meeting requirements.

The report highlights “significant improvements in examination outcomes” and says pupils “achieve well across the breadth of the curriculum”. Inspectors also found that pupils progress well from their starting points and praised a curriculum that is well designed and carefully sequenced.

Inspectors said pupils enjoy coming to Pegasus Academy and described a calm, respectful atmosphere across the school. The report notes that pupils feel safe, work well with staff and each other, and behave maturely in lessons and around the site.

Ofsted also praised the academy’s inclusive approach, saying leaders have high ambitions for all pupils and quickly identify the needs of those with SEND. Inspectors highlighted a broad personal development offer, effective enrichment opportunities and a careers programme that benefits pupils significantly.

The report also recognises well established leadership, governance and trust support, noting that leaders make decisions in the best interests of pupils and that those responsible for governance understand the school’s strengths and areas for development. Inspectors also praised the professional support provided through Dudley Academies Trust.

Andy Landers, Principal at Pegasus Academy, said, “The inspection recognises both the academic progress pupils are making and the strength of care and support that sits behind it. The report reflects the commitment of staff, the positive attitudes of pupils and the support of families. Pegasus Academy works every day to ensure that young people feel safe, valued and ambitious about their future, and it is very encouraging to see that reflected so clearly in the findings.”

Jo Higgins, Chief Executive Officer at Dudley Academies Trust, said, “This is a very positive report for Pegasus Academy and for the wider Trust. It recognises the robust leadership of the school, the dedication of colleagues and the thoughtful way in which the curriculum and wider support for pupils have been developed. It is particularly pleasing that inspectors have highlighted not only academic improvement, but also the inclusive culture and ambition that help pupils thrive.”

Judith Humphry, Chair of the Board of Trustees at Dudley Academies Trust, said, “This outcome is a testament to the sustained work taking place across Pegasus Academy to support pupils to achieve and grow in confidence.
